Between Bergerac and Sarlat, and not far from Villeneuve/Lot,
Cahors and the Lot, the canton of Monpazier offers much
to interest visitors:
- The 13thC bastide of Monpazier, an authentic jewel of
medieval architecture, is considered the most beautiful and perfect
of the 300 bastides of the south-west. In 1991, the bastide
of Monpazier, classified as “one of the most beautiful
villages of France” was raised to the rank of “Grand
site national” in conjunction with Biron and Capdrot,
allowing us to protect and to highlight this unique architectural
and urban heritage.
- The castle at Biron is the seat of one of the four baronies
of Perigord. Examples of all the
periods of architecture are represented here from the
12thC dungeon to the modern 18thC buildings, by way of
the Renaissance apartments and chapel.

- Others attractions in the area are the 15 churches of
the canton (of which 13 are Norman), the numerous artists
and creative craftspeople, the local growers and producers,
the markets, the “cepes” markets, guided tours,
archeological outings...
